Concrete Works At Nicoll Highway Incident Site

Repair works at the Nicoll Highway are on track. As of today, about 2200 cubic metres have been pumped into the site. Four concrete pumps have been deployed for this purpose.

Since 24 April 2004, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) has been carrying out grouting works to stabilise the ground at the incident site. As more concrete is pumped into the site, the ground conditions have progressively stabilised.

Following the grouting of concrete into the site, the contractor will backfill the collapsed area to form a platform, before removing the debris of concrete and steel materials, and backfilling to the ground level to restore Nicoll Highway. The whole process, including the restoration of Nicoll Highway, is expected to take some six to nine months.

Cutting of the Merdeka Bridge

About 80% of the works to cut the bridge have been completed. Depending on the weather, works should complete by tomorrow. Currently, there are about 20 people working round the clock to cut the bridge.
