Jointly Issued by
The Land Transport Authority of Singapore and
Green Dot Internet Services Pte Ltd
Singapore, 25 August 2004
- The Land Transport Authority (LTA) and Green Dot Internet Services Pte Ltd
(GDIS) today launch the newly integrated ONE.MOTORING (www.onemotoring.com.sg)
portal as the online gateway for all matters pertaining to motoring and road
transport. The new portal integrates, at one focal point, all information and
services previously available on the former ONE.MOTORING, traffic.smart and
OnePay.Hub sites. In addition, it promises new services, richer content and
greater accessibility, making it Singapore's premier one-stop internet portal
for motorists, road users and the motor trade industry.
The new ONE.MOTORING portal offers a
comprehensive range of vehicle-related information and services such as
e-transactions and e-payments, as well as information on real-time traffic
conditions, road projects, traffic management schemes and transport technologies
under the new On-the-Roads section. The introduction of the interest group and
lifestyle sections featuring contests, promotions and articles, adds vibrancy to
the portal. For instance, the SMS Classifieds service under the new 'Buy &
Sell' section allows sellers to reach out to potential buyers quickly and
affordably using their mobile phones.
The ONE.MOTORING portal will be made more
accessible via channels such as the Short Messaging System (SMS) or the Wireless
Application Protocol (WAP). This increased accessibility caters to a population
that is increasingly becoming more mobile, and enables users to access
information and services on the portal even while on the move.
Through an open tender, LTA awarded the 5-year
contract to manage and operate ONE.MOTORING to local e-business company, GDIS.
Under the contract, LTA will continue to provide regulatory information and
services for the portal while GDIS will actively operate the portal and enrich
it with innovative services and contents as the private sector partner for the
project. This will enable the portal to address a wider range of needs and
interests of the users.
Says Ms Maria Choy, Director, Vehicle and
Transit Licensing Division of LTA, "LTA is always on the look out for ways
and means to deliver better service to our motorists and road users. Providing
this premier one-stop motoring portal is one way we can give value to them. This
collaboration with GDIS allows us to tap on the nimbleness and enterprise of the
private sector, introducing an innovative facet to the regulatory role we have
traditionally played. In addition, rationalising our operations and outsourcing
our internet efforts in this way has yielded cost savings and service delivery
efficiency."
Dr Francis Yeoh, CEO of GDIS, added "GDIS
has had considerable experience and success in operating portals such as MIW ( www.miw.com.sg),
the portal for National Servicemen and CAN.COM (www.can.com.sg),
a location-based interactive lifestyle portal. We are excited
about the opportunity to operate ONE.MOTORING. The partnership model adopted by
LTA is ideal as it combines the best of public and private sector strengths to
give a win-win arrangement which will benefit all parties, particularly the
users of the portal. While introducing some new services now, we are already
working on many other interesting and innovative ideas which will see fruition
in the near future."
