Cameras at the Kembangan MRT station will now
act as a barrier for bicycle thieves in the area
Imagine spending over $100 on a spanking brand new bicycle
with shiny rims and comfortable seat and using it as your only means of
transport from home to the MRT station. And five days later, it's stolen in
broad daylight!
35-year-old Riaz Moiz Jadliwala could hardly believe it when
it happened to him. His bicycle was parked in a public place - the Kembangan
MRT station.
Not anymore! In a joint effort by various grassroots
organisations and the relevant authorities, namely North East Community
Development Council, Kampong Kembangan CCMC, Aljunied-Kembangan Lengkong RC,
Aljunied-Kembangan Jalan Senang NC, Aljunied-Kembangan Lorong Melayu NC, Land
Transport Authority, SMRT Corporation Ltd and Bedok South Neighbourhood Police
Centre, occurrence of such incidents will be reduced with the installation of
CCTVs at the Kembangan MRT station.
To reach out to the public and educate them on the safety
measures that can be taken, there will also be a display on safety and security
gadgets for bicycles and a special skit will also be put up by the Bedok South
NPC. In addition, Dr Ong Seh Hong, MP for Aljunied GRC and 30 other cycling
enthusiasts will be cycling around the neighbourhood. Bicycle engraving services
and sale of bicycle safety devices will also be available.
Your reporter and photographer/camera crew are cordially
invited to join Dr Ong Seh Hong for the launch of the CCTV and the edu-outreach
programme. Interviews and photo opportunities can be arranged. Please contact
the media person to confirm your attendance.
