Starting from 8 October 2005, there
will be Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) charging for motorists travelling to the
Orchard Road area from 12.00 noon to 8.00pm on Saturdays.
Motorists who wish to drive into the Orchard
Road area will need to pay an ERP charge of $0.50 during the ERP operating
hours. This applies to the two new ERP gantries - located near Handy Road and
after the YMCA - that demarcate the Orchard Road cordon.
To encourage motorists to use alternative
routes, other than Orchard Road, to get to their destinations outside the
Orchard Road area, there will be ERP charging at the Handy Road gantry.
The ERP rates for Saturdays are as follows:

Motorists are advised to ensure that there is
sufficient value on their CashCard and to insert their CashCard into the
In-vehicle Unit (IU).
The rates will be adjusted accordingly
following the next ERP rate review in November 2005.
Full Day Bus Lane
Motorists are also encouraged to use public
transport for some of their trips to relieve congestion on our roads. In line
with the extension of ERP operating hours, the bus lane along Orchard Road, from
Paterson Road to Dhoby Ghaut, will also be in operation from 7.30am to 8.00pm to
help improve travel by public bus services.
Implementation of ERP at Orchard
From 3 October 2005, the Orchard Road area was separated from the rest of the
Central Business District (CBD), and ERP rates for the two cordons are now
priced separately to better reflect traffic conditions in the two areas. While
ERP operating hours for the Orchard Road area were extended to 8.00pm on
weekdays, and from 12.00 noon to 8.00pm on Saturdays, there is zero charging on
weekday mornings.
