Construction Work to Widen the CTE Begins

1. The Land Transport Authority will commence works for the widening works of the stretch of the CTE between Ang Mo Kio Ave 1 and Ang Mo Kio Ave 3 from 2 June onwards.

2. The works for this contract will involve the widening of the section of CTE between Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1 and Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3 from the existing dual 3-lane carriageway to a dual 4-lane carriageway.

3. A new covered pedestrian overhead bridge with ramps and link-ways will be constructed as part of the widening works.

4. Works for this stretch of the CTE is scheduled for completion by end 2009.

5. As with all other land transport infrastructural works, LTA will be putting in the necessary control measures to ensure that the public will not be unduly affected by the works. Should there by any road closures required, directional and information signs will be placed way in advance of the road closure to inform and guide motorists of the alternative routes.

6. This is the first stretch of the comprehensive widening and improvement works to the CTE, announced earlier this year.

7. Three more stretches of the existing CTE will be widened to provide 4 continuous traffic lanes between the Pan Island Expressway (PIE) and Yio Chu Kang Road by end 2011. The Land Transport Authority will be calling contracts to widen these three stretches by the end of the year.

8. "We are pleased to share that the first phase of the CTE widening project has kicked off and this will bring about benefits to the residents living along the North-East corridor when the widening project is completed," said LTA Chief Executive, Mr Yam Ah Mee.
