New Page 1

1.     Starting 4 July 2008, public transport commuters will be able to plan their journeys on public buses and trains based on the choice of the shortest travel time or the lowest fare with the Public Transport Journey Planner, a website available at www.transitlink.com.sg. The Journey Planner is the first initiative to integrate travel routes across basic bus and rail services operated by SBS Transit and SMRT, so as to enable commuters to travel more seamlessly on the public transport system.

2.     The Public Transport Journey Planner is an online travel advisory tool for commuters to access pre-trip information conveniently. It provides information on routes, estimated travel time, number of transfers required and the fare for each route, thereby enabling commuters to make better informed decisions.

3.     There are four easy-to-use search options to indicate the origin and destination of the commuter, namely by street and block number, name of landmark postal code or the MRT/ LRT station. In addition, options to select the mode of transport such as travel by bus only, by MRT/LRT only or by bus and MRT/ LRT are also available.

4.     With street-level maps to ensure easy navigation, the integrated planner gives commuters the flexibility of specifying the maximum walking distance to and from bus stops, bus interchanges or MRT/ LRT stations that they are comfortable with.

5     Introduced on a 3-month trial basis, the Public Transport Journey Planner will replace the existing Bus Journey Planner. Favourable public feedback towards the Bus Journey Planner led to the development of the Public Transport Journey Planner, which is an enhancement that incorporates new features.

6.     LTA provided funding support for this initiative as part of its continual efforts to promote the use of public transport and make it a choice mode for commuters. During the trial, TransitLink will obtain commuters' feedback and suggestions to improve the Journey Planner. Commuters are encouraged to provide their comments via the TransitLink website at www.transitlink.com.sg.
