Contracts Awarded for the Circle Line
Costing S$6.7 billion, the CCL is an orbital
line linking all radial rapid transit system (RTS) lines running into the city.
It will interchange with the North-South, East-West and North East Line. It will
be a fully automated system and will be built in stages.
The Stage 3 of CCL is 5.7-km long with five
stations, running from Bartley Road to Marymount Road, with interchange stations
at Serangoon (with the North East Line) and Bishan (with the North-South Line).
The Stage 3 of CCL will cost about S$1.2
billion to build. The first civil works contract for the construction of Lorong
Chuan Station, as well as three contracts for electrical and mechanical works,
were awarded in June and early July 2003 comprising Tunnel Ventilation &
Environmental Control System, Electrical Services and Fire Protection Systems.
With this latest award of contracts, most of the major contracts for this stage
of the Circle Line are now in place. Physical construction of Stage 3 of CCL is
targeted to start sometime in the third quarter of 2003, and is expected to
complete by early 2008.
Contracts for civil as well as electrical and
mechanical works have already been awarded for Stages 1 and 2 of CCL, as
follows:
Stage 1
The Stage 1 of CCL will cost about S$1.39
billion to build. Two civil works contracts worth about S$617 million have been
awarded for this project. The contract for the electrical and mechanical systems
was worth S$282 million.
Stage 2
The Stage 2 of CCL will cost about S$1.55
billion to build. Three civil works contracts worth about S$958 million have
been awarded for this project. The contract for the electrical and mechanical
systems was worth S$233 million.
Quote from Chief Executive, LTA
"The award of these civil works contracts
for Stage 3 of CCL marks another milestone in the construction of Circle Line,
and strongly demonstrates LTA's commitment to develop the rapid transit system
as the backbone of public transport. So far, civil contracts worth about S$2
billion have been awarded for Stages 1, 2 and 3 of Circle Line. The award of
these contracts will also give a boost to the construction industry in this
economic climate. We will continue to work closely with our contractors to
ensure that the Circle Line system is delivered in a satisfactory and timely
manner," says Mr Ho Meng Kit, Chief Executive, LTA.
