1. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) is pleased to announce
that it has completed its review of the Park and Ride (P&R) scheme, and will
be implementing the following three initiatives to improve the scheme:
(a) Introducing an on-line channel for the purchase of
P&R sets
(b) Increasing the number of P&R lots near popular sites; and
(c) Stepping-up publicity of less popular P&R sites to raise awareness on
the availability of park and ride at these sites.
2. These new initiatives serve to encourage more car owners to
park at designated P&R sites, before hopping onto a train or bus to continue
their journey. This helps to reduce traffic demand, as for every motorist who
participates in the scheme, there is potentially one less car on the road or
expressways.
On-line channel to purchase P&R sets
3. LTA and TransitLink (TL) will be implementing an online
system for the purchase of P&R sets. This is targeted to be ready in the
second quarter of 2010. With the new channel, motorists will be provided with an
additional and more convenient option of buying their P&R sets online, and
do not have to personally queue at TL Ticket Offices when sales are open.
Motorists who purchase the P&R set on-line can go to any TL Ticket Office at
a more convenient time to pick-up the Season Parking Ticket decal for their
chosen P&R car park and to top-up the P&R ez-link card. More details on
the on-line channel will be provided nearer the implementation date.
New P&R car park lots
4. LTA has worked with HDB to introduce three new P&R car
parks to the existing 37 in the vicinity of popular P&R car parks at
Queenstown, Buona Vista and Yio Chu Kang. With the three new sites, the number
of car park lots that are situated near popular sites will increase by an
additional 90 lots from 1 May 2010. This brings the total number of P&R
sites to 40 with over 4,800 lots. Sales of P&R sets at these three new sites
will commence on 15 April 2010.

Stepping-up publicity
6. To increase awareness of less popular sites and encourage
more motorists to consider Park and Ride, LTA will implement the following
initiatives from April 2010:
(a) Enhance the PublicTransport@SG portal to provide essential
information for all P&R sites:
i) Detailed walking path from P&R site to the nearest
transport node
ii) Estimated time required from P&R site to the nearest transport node
iii) Possible cost savings from using Park & Ride
(b) Provide big foot markers to guide users to the nearest
transport node at the less popular P&R sites. The markers will be
progressively painted from April 2010.
(c) Install additional signages at P&R sites with map
features to provide users with detailed walking path from P&R site to the
nearest transport node. The maps will be installed progressively from April
2010.
(d) Send P&R leaflets to motorists from April 2010 by
tapping on the road tax renewal process
